Sorry guys–I promise I’ll get back on schedule soon!
Sorry guys–I promise I’ll get back on schedule soon!
We’re just going to move on.
So Muslims all around the world are currently celebrating the month of Ramadan! During this month, Muslims are instructed by the Quaran to refrain from eating, among other things, in order to cleanse their souls of material longing.
Although I’m not a Muslim, I’ve always loved the idea of Ramadan. It’s not just about fasting. I feel like it’s sort of an acknowledgement that not everyone can put as much focus into their religion as they want, because they’re too busy with other things. But Ramadan is sort of like a month out of the year that one can devote more time to immersing themselves spiritually. Also, Ramadan is sort of a way to show solidarity with those who are less fortunate, and do not have everything they need to live, such as food, as articulated by Yousef in this video:
So basically, during Ramadan, Muslims must eat before the sun rises, fast during the day, and then eat again after sunset. But I would imagine that it’s more than the not eating part that takes discipline, because the waking up so early part sounds difficult to. I’ve been wanting to try fasting for at least three days during this month, just to experience a small aspect of Ramadan, and it’s the waking up so early part that I think will be the most challenging. I’m still planning on doing it though, and I’ll let you guys know how it goes when I do!
Another thing about Ramadan that I like is how, whenever my Muslim friends are fasting, they’re always going over to other peoples’ houses to break their fasts in the evening. I feel like Ramadan allows people to reconnect in this way. Can you imagine going to a fun house function everyday for a month? I would die. Of joy. Also, there’s the feeling of knowing that people around the world are taking part in the same thing that you are for an entire month. That’s got to be a good feeling.
Aight, so since I’m not Muslim, I don’t want to keep rambling on about something I don’t know that much about. I’m by no means an authority on the subject–I’m simply an ignorant buffoon. So you can read more about Ramadan HERE, and you can check out this awesome slideshow showing people around the world preparing and taking part in Ramadan this year. If you are Muslim, I’d love to hear your thoughts on Ramadan. HIT ME UP IN THE COMMENTS HOMIES! And if you’re not Muslim, I’d still love to hear your thoughts just as much! You may kindly proceed to hit up the comment section as well 🙂
Really though. I LOVE reading your comments. Even if you just say hi. Or link me to a picture of your cousin’s wedding. Anything you want, okay? I’m lonely.
Ramadan Mubarak, Ramadan Saeed, Ramadan Mabrook, and Ramadan Kareem, to all of my Muslim brothers and sisters 🙂
Hey there! First off, I want to say a big thank you for your patience, and for the nice comments you’ve written, which have meant so much<3
Really though : )
Secondly! My cat seems to be improving with his medicines : )
I know that what he has is serious, and we might not have a lot of time left with him, but he seems comfortable, and that’s what matters : )
And thirdly–The new post will be up sometime before the end of the month, hopefully sooner rather than later, so keep checking back here! It’s going to be all about a certain holiday going on right now…that lasts for a month…where the participants don’t eat from sunrise to sunset…and that’s all the hints I can think of, so if you haven’t gotten it yet, then off to Google with you!
Aight. That’s it for now. I’ll see you REALLY soon 🙂
Wednesday night, my cat was diagnosed with a heart illness. This little dude is my best friend, and has been for the past nine years. At this time, I’ve been spending most of my time with him, and I will not be posting for a couple of weeks. I hope you guys can understand : ) I love running this blog, and I love hearing your feedback, but I would rather wait to post something until I am able to put more time and energy– two things I’ve been short on this week– into it. That said, I LOVE all the comments I’ve been getting–hearing from you guys makes my day : )
Your patience is much appreciated, as are any prayers for Cinnamon : )
Okay, so technically I don’t have a post planned out.
At first, I was just thinking about leaving it at that, and being like “I’m really sorry I don’t have a post this week and whatnot.”
BUT THEN I THOUGHT
Why don’t I do a post about why I don’t have a post??
And so that’s what I’m doing. I’m going to tell you guys why I didn’t really have time to plan a post! But then, by writing a post about why I don’t have a post, I actually am writing a post, and therefore I don’t need to write a post about why I don’t have a post, but then I don’t have a post…and it’s basically one big paradox…
I’m going to do it anyways though… 😀
Also, I know I don’t usually do posts about my personal life and stuff, so I know this is kind of something different. Don’t worry, things will go back to normal after this, pinkie promise.
SO the reason I didn’t have time to plan a post is because the past three weeks have been super packed. First, I went to Khaled Hosseini’s book signing.
AND OMG IT WAS THE GREATEST HE’S SO SMART AND STUFF AND HE WRITES SO WELL AND UGHH.
When I was in line to get my book signed, I was thinking about what I should say. You want to say something profound and whatnot, but when I got up there, it was so fast! He took my book and signed it and it was time for me to move on but I HADN’T EVEN SAID ANYTHING YET and so I go “You’re a really good writer.” AS IF HE DIDN’T KNOW.
But it was all good, because he laughed and was like, “Thank you.” At least he laughed, you know? Even if it was only because I’m an awkward person.
So that was really awesome. AND THEN the next weekend I went to that One Direction concert I was telling y’all about 🙂
That was the greatest also! They’re SO GOOD live, I was there with some good friends, I ate a cream cheese filled pretzel, and it was just a really fun time overall. Overalls. lol.
Anyways, if you were wondering, no, I did not get to shout any Bollywood lyrics to Zayn. And we didn’t interact in the slightest. Next time…
And the last thing I did was go on a day trip to the beach. Well idk if you could call it a day trip, because I spent the night there, but I was only there for 24 hours. It was really nice. I was there with my mom. My brother was there too, but he was camping with his friends. It’s nice to get away from your normal setting sometimes, even if it’s just for a little while.
And on top of all of this, my cat has been kind of under the weather for a while.
Thankfully he seems almost back to normal, but with all of this stuff going on, especially worrying about him, I haven’t had as much time as usual to plan posts. I’ve been thinking about ideas though, and hopefully will start turning those ideas into posts soon 🙂
I hope you guys are having a FANTASTIC summer so far! See you next Sunday! 🙂
